Purpose-Built. Proven Performance.
At DSI, we operate with a singular focus: the PBL® Multiple Activation Bypass System is not just part of our offering — it is our core solution. This deliberate specialization enables us to go deeper, refine further, and deliver a level of performance that generalist providers simply can’t match.
For decades, we’ve dedicated our resources, innovation, and engineering talent exclusively to the development, improvement, and application of the PBL® system. That commitment has earned us a reputation as the global authority on multiple activation bypass technology.
In an industry where efficiency and precision matter more than ever, our proven technology helps operators optimize performance, lower costs, and reduce operational risk.
In addition to our product expertise, DSI is proud to be part of the SBO Group — a global network of technology-driven companies serving the upstream energy sector.
Through this partnership, we combine local service and responsiveness with global infrastructure, innovation, and manufacturing scale. This focus brings real-world value to our customers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have Split-Flow capabilities on the PBL®?
Yes! The PBL® allows you to split the flow while drilling and can switch to 100% bypass and pump LCM without tripping out of the hole.
Can I perform cement operations through the PBL® with the BHA on bottom?
Yes! PBL® provides the ability to cure severe losses with cement slurries while isolating the BHA below. This eliminates the need for a dedicated trip, reducing costs, NPT, and HSE exposure at the rig site.
Can I use PBL® tools in high-temperature Geothermal Drilling projects?
Yes! PBL® tools are good for use in geothermal wells. Standard PBL® up to 420°F, High-Temp. (HT) PBL® up to 500°F and for temperatures > 500°F, we will work with you to develop a fit-for-purpose solution!
Can the PBL® system be run with a Silicate mud system?
Yes! The PBL® System, dressed with DSI’s specialized seals, is compatible with most drilling fluids and can be used, once the mud’s MSDS has been examined, to ensure all other chemicals in the mud are compatible with the seals.
Can the PBL® sub be used in acid stimulation jobs?
Yes! The DSI PBL® Bypass System can be used to perform acid stimulation jobs. DSI’s specialised activation balls are recommended, as these are more resilient to aggressive fluids attacks.
What is the ideal placement of the PBL® sub?
This depends on the BHA design and application, but it can be placed anywhere in the string. Ideally, it is placed above the directional assembly for drilling and above the liner top to boost the Annular Velocity for completions/Wellbore Clean Out.
What is the maximum LCM concentration & particle size when running the PBL® system?
There is no limit on the LCM concentration. The particle size used can be as large as 1/3 of the port diameter. (port ID: 1.10 in. for 4 3/4- to 7-in. tools and 1.35 in. for 8- to 12-in. tools).
