A large multi-national operator was expecting a potential occurrence of severe losses with a large volume of drilling fluid lost while drilling an 8 ½” hole section offshore Turkey.
As a part of the operator’s strategy to have a reliable contingency in place in case of losses, the 6 ¾” PBL circulating sub was included in the operator’s BHA, to be activated if losses occurred.
As a result of having the PBL tool in their BHA as a reliable “insurance”, the operator avoided at least 3 trips out of hole which resulted in substantial savings in both time and costs.
